The History of Beer

Mankind has been brewing and drinking beer for thousands of years. The earliest recorded beer recipe was found in clay tablets written 7.000 years ago. Beer originated in mMesopotamia and then found its way to Anatolia and the Nile river valley. Four thousand years ago in Anatolia, Hittites, who had founded one of the biggest and most sophisticated civiliza-tions of its age, were drinking beer in daily life as well as in sacred rituals. Commencing its operations with two domestic breweries in Turkey in 1969, Efes Beer Group today comprises a total of 16 breweries, 6 malteries and 1 hop processing facility in 6 countries, coupled with various companies for distribution, licensing and technical support. Currently total annual brewing capacity of the Group is 33 million hectolitres whereas the total malting capacity is around 236,500 tons per annum.
